DAWSON, GA (WALB) - A delay in sending out property tax notices means Terrell County will have to borrow money.

The county's tax digest was recently approved and tax notices should go out no later than December 15th.

The county is borrowing half a million dollars from the state, because revenue from taxpayers will be late coming in.

Chairman Wilbur Gamble encourages taxpayers to pay their notices quickly.

"It would be a big help to us. I had a lot of people call and it's putting us in a bind right now because we've had to borrow $500,000 that we would not have had to borrow otherwise."

The board of education missed a deadline, delaying the process. Taxpayers have 60 days to pay the county once they receive their notice.
