Calhoun murder suspect pleads to manslaughter

ARLINGTON, GA (WALB) - Luther Odell Spann was charged with one count of Felony Murder and Aggravated Assault.

Spann pled to Voluntary Manslaughter and was sentenced to 15 years to serve in prison by Chief Judge A. Wallace Cato.

With the assistance of GBI agent Brandon Shiver, evidence showed that Spann strangled and killed Ms. Lekisha Monique Williams on or about June 29, 2014 at her residence in Calhoun County.

District Attorney, Joseph Mulholland for the South Georgia Judicial Circuit, said, "We hope that the Williams family can now have a little closure knowing that Mr. Spann has been accountable for his horrendous conduct and crime. Our prayers go out to the Williams family for their loss."

Approximately 35 defendants were arrested, charged, and entered pleas of guilty this week in Calhoun County Superior Court. The defendants were sentenced to serve some time in custody or lengthy probation.
