CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Police in one South Georgia town have a new assignment, to make sure kids have a special Christmas.

This is the first year for Cordele police to tryout the shop with a cop program, and its one they're hoping to continue.

Right now Cordele Police are taking donations for the December 19th event.

60 dollars will sponsor a kid, and buy them a gift, plus lunch and a shirt.

So far, the department has about 30 kids signed up, and they're hoping to be able to serve about 50.

“We will load them up on a bus and have a police escort. We will escort them from the school that we will pick them up from and we will parade around town a little bit and we will take them to Chick-fil-a to eat and from there we will end up taking them shopping,” says Cordele Police officer Ketorie Sales.

Its an event that several law enforcement agencies do in Southwest Georgia to bring the gap between police and children.

You can contact Cordele police at 229-273-3102 if your interested in donating.
