ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Three Dougherty County teachers are recognized for their work in the classroom with a special award.

Superintendent Dr. David Mosely surprised the educators with Winner in the Classroom GAMEBALL awards Tuesday.

Sequoias Walker, an 8th grade math teacher and department chair at Robert Cross Middle Magnet School was the first one to receive a GAMEBALL.

"It's very important that I was was singled out amongst 1500 other teachers, because it lets me know that my hard work is appreciated," said Sequoias Walker, Robert Cross Magnet School.

Katesa Walker who teaches at International Studies Elementary Charter School... and Rita Correia, a physical science teacher at Dougherty Comprehensive High School... also received awards.

Dr. Mosely created the GAMEBALL award last year to honor teachers whose students excel in the classroom and on state tests.
