PRIDE youth football team represents south Georgia in national championship

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A south Georgia youth football team is heading to Orlando to play for a national championship.

The PRIDE Sports Development team won the Big Peach and American Youth Football regional's.

Saturday, December 6th, the team that includes players from Dougherty, Lee, Colquitt, Worth and Thomas Counties will play for the title.

Albany's mayor signed a proclamation naming December 6th to 14th as Pride week.

The Governor also sent his well wishes in a letter.

Players say PRIDE offers more than football.

"It has brought me up into a good upbringing and taught me leadership skills and most of all it has taught me you can't do anything without academics," said Bevin Glanton.

"In order to be on this team and go to the national championship, you have to maintain a 2.5 gpa and they well exceeded that," said Patrick Wise, Founder and Coach of PRIDE.

The team will have a pep rally Friday at seven at Henderson Community Center. To help sponsor a play click here.
