VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta State University helped raise awareness about the AIDS virus Monday.
In honor of world AIDS day Monday, the university teamed up with the department of public health to offer free HIV testing on campus along with a presentation about AIDS.
Senior Joshua Wilson got tested at the event, saying he wanted to know his status now so that he could be better prepared for the future. "I think it's very important; I think it's very selfless," Wilson said. "You want to have the ability to share this with someone who you will potentially marry and be with, or even just for your futureendeavorr[s]."
It is estimated that over one million people are currently living with AIDS in the U.S. and roughly 15% of them are unaware that they have the virus.
