ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany man has been indicted for stealing thousands of dollars from an elderly man. Investigators said he conned the victim into thinking he was an informant with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Emmitt Austin was indicted on 10 counts of exploitation and intimidation of an elderly person.
Prosecutors said from September 2013 through June 2014, Austin told Keylon Thompson that he was working with the FBI, and he needed to give him money to support his investigation.
"This carried on for many months until it was finally discovered by persons who were looking at the way the money was allegedly coming from this victim's account," said Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards.
The D.A. encouraged family members to keep watch on elderly relatives and their finances to protect them.
