Students give back, get experience

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Lowe's grant is helping students in the horticulture program give back to the community while getting hands on experience.

Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful applied for the $10,000 grant for Albany ARC adult day center.

Students built a raised garden with pavers, shrubs, flowers and trees, along with a place where visitors can grow plants, herbs and vegetables.

"It's gonna be a wonderful thing for everyone here," said George Paul with Albany Technical College. "It gave my students very valuable landscaping experience. It gave us the opportunity to give something back to the community, and also gives the community awareness about the horticulture program at Albany Tech."

The raised planting boxes will allow special needs citizens the opportunity to participate in the gardening.
