Ben Hill Co. 4H group giving away coats

One student organization is helping members of their community as cold temperatures move in. The 4H group in Ben Hill County is asking you to donate new or gently-used coats to their drive.

Residents who can't afford a winter coat can pick those jackets up at the Christian Kitchen next week. 4H is heading up the event for the second year after a Fitzgerald woman had to stop after 15 years.

"Well we really wanted to take this over with 4-H because it has been a longstanding tradition in our community and it really helps with getting coats to people who wouldn't normally have coats over the winter," said 4-H member Jonathan Tomberlin.

You can drop off coats anytime at the UGA extension office on West Palm Street or at the Herald Leader. Jackets will be handed out at the Christian Kitchen on December 5th from 4-6 and December 6th from 9 AM to noon.
