Man wins tickets to Georgia rivalry game, still needs ride

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

An Albany man was recognized for his community service with tickets to this weekend's rivalry game between Georgia and Georgia Tech.

Ervin Fulton, who's legally blind, not only gets to go to the game, but will be able to go onto the field.

His biggest challenge now is getting a ride to Athens.

Ervin Fulton and his 18-year-old son, Kendle are already planning their trip to Sanford Stadium for the big game between University of Georgia and Georgia Tech.

"I've always wanted to go to Sanford Stadium and I've never been and I have always watched it on TV," said Fulton.

Fulton is one of seven people who won 4 tickets in a contest that honors them for their service work.

"All the people that won are going to get called out in the middle of the field and they're going to talk about them and they're going to put me up on the billboard, the scoreboard with my picture and all of that," said Fulton.

He was entered because of his community service work with the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.

Since 1998, Fulton has hosted a clothing giveaway every December. He also participates in a Thanksgiving food basket giveaway.

"If I could just give one person something, I feel like my job has been done," he said.

But now Fulton needs help. He is considered legally blind, and isn't sure how they will actually get to Athens.

"We're trying to make arrangements for transportation, but as you all know the holidays are coming up and people are going out of town so they're not in place. But I'm going to get there, we're going to get there."

Now he's asking anyone who might be going for a ride, no matter who they are cheering for.

"Even if it's a Georgia tech fan, [we] don't care because you got to go to the game too. So it doesn't matter."

Fulton is confident that if he can win something like this, he can find a ride to a big game that will mean the world to him and his son.

The contest is part of the University of Georgia Athletic Association's third annual Team Unselfish Giving Attitude Awards.

Georgia Power, in partnership with IMG College, is serving as the presenting sponsor.

If you can give the Fultons a ride to the game, call them at 229-291-6233.
