MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - Thieves hit a closed Moultrie Restaurant twice recently, causing thousands of dollars of damage.
Magnolia Restaurant on South Main Street is in the middle of an ownership change. It was first hit by thieves on October 17th and again sometime between November 14th and 17th. Police believe the same crooks could be responsible for both break-ins.
They entered through a side window where they crawled into the ceiling and gutted the ice machine to steal copper wire. They also took pots and pans. Police have now stepped up patrols in the area.
"We have no suspects in mind right now, but this is the second time this place has been broken into in less than a month," said Inv. David Jones. "So we've asked our patrol officers to step up patrols down there."
Police say the thieves caused about $13,000 worth of damage. They collected evidence and sent it to the GBI Crime Lab. They're now asking owners to keep their vacant buildings as secure as possible. If you have any information about these burglaries your asked to call Moultrie Police.
