CORDELE, GA (WALB) - The Cordele Police Department is hoping to give children in need a merry Christmas. For the first time, Cordele Police are working with Walmart to host a program December 19th.

They want to bring the community together and improve their relationship with kids, but they need donations to make it possible.

"We're reaching out to the community, trying to bridge the gap between kids and cops. Because you always go into the store and the first thing a parent wants to do is say, he's going to lock you up. Well we're not here to lock up kids, we're here to help kids and and we want the kids to know that," said Cordele Police Detective Ketorie Sales.

They hope to provide gifts to 15 to 20 children picked through the school system. If you give $60 or more, you'll be named a sponsor.

To donate call the Cordele Police Department at 229-276-2921 and ask for Detective Sales.
