Police warn shoppers of holiday crime

As the holidays approach, Cordele Police are reminding folks to be on alert for criminals. They say crooks are always looking for opportunities.

Authorities ask shoppers to be cautious as they walk to their cars at night, don't flash cash when you buy something, minimize your walking distance from your vehicle to the store and shop in pairs.

"We just recently had an incident where a woman got her purse snatched yesterday. It was an elderly woman, she was by herself and a guy that was much bigger than her snatched her purse and got away with it. So try to go in pairs and don't go at night if at all possible," said SGT. Jeremy Taylor with the Cordele Police Department.

Police also ask businesses to be aware of their customers and make sure security alarms and cameras are working.
