ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Some Dougherty County students are reliving the past to learn about our founding fathers.
Thursday was Patriots Day at Deerfield-Windsor's lower campus. Fifth graders and their teachers dressed up as figures from the American Revolution as part of their 9 week study. Students churned butter, made candles, and wrote calligraphy.
"Well we want them to understand what it was really like for children back at the beginning of our country's history and to really gain an appreciation for the price of freedom," said Cary Stoudenmire, Lower School Director.
Founders of the "Why America is Free Program" designed the curriculum and flew in from Texas. Officials say Thursday's event was a two year process. Students will have a surprise Patriots Day activity at a parent's home Thursday night.
