While police in Tallahassee say Myron May had no previous encounters at the school, the 31-year-old man who opened fire at a Florida State University library came prepared.
According to police, May began firing at students in the Stozier Library with a .380 semi-automatic pistol, and had more ammunition in his pockets. Officers later shot and killed May.
Police detailed the campus shooting along with some of May's background in a 3 p.m. news conference Thursday.
They said he had a journal that described fears of being targeted by the government.
There was no word on a specific motive Thursday afternoon.
Officials placed five officers on administrative leave who were involved in the shooting.
