VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Dozens of students from nine South Georgia Counties got to know what it feels like to be a champion.
Thursday was the 2nd day of competition in the Valdosta Lowndes Parks and Recreation Authority's Fall Special Olympics. The special olympians competed in various basketball challenges.
Event coordinator Tammy Crosby said she looks forward to the event every year. "Our purpose with our local special olympics is most definitely awareness, letting the community know, getting the community involved in Special Olympics program. Also, for the athletes to be with other children just like them," Crosby explained.
The athletes competed in bowling on Tuesday.
