ADEL, GA (WALB) -

An Adel church is providing meals to the homeless.

Thursday, members of The Church of Christ put together home cooked meals and handed them out.

The event's main organizer, Constance Davis, said the church collected around 100 pounds of food, mostly from donations, and expected to feed at least 100 people.

Ruenette Melton, also one of the event's organizers, said it's all about reaching out to people in the community who are often forgotten. "This is our silent community, that really do not come out; that no one really knows a lot about," Melton emphasized. "So, we wanna make sure that we service them. We will also be doing holiday baskets."

The group will also deliver meals to homeless in Albany, Tifton, and Cecil.

The church is currently looking for donations of toiletry items to put into the holiday baskets, which will be delivered to the homeless in December, and are also looking for businesses or organizations to act as donation locations. Contact Ruenette Melton at 229-392-1979.
