ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Independent doctors are worried about the growing influence large insurance companies have over your health care.
They gathered tonight in Albany to voice concerns about a contract they say Blue Cross Blue Shield forced on them.
They said doctors in large health systems such as Phoebe Putney get much more favorable deals.
The state insurance commissioner's office forced Blue Cross Blue Shield to retract the contract with independent doctors.
"As independent physicians were concerned about preserving the doctor patient relationship which we think is the key in maintaining the value in healthcare. But right now were are seeing Blue Cross and Blue Shield and other insurance companies try to step in to make changes in network agreement contracts that will put the insurance company in between the doctor and the patient," Job Stubbs, Internist.
The doctors are waiting to see details of a new deal with Blue Cross Blue Shield that will take effect in January.
