DCP sponsors food drive giveaway

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Police donated a truck load of food to St. Clare's, Neighbors in Need today, to help make sure dozens of families in need have a good Thanksgiving meal.

This is the 12th year that the Dougherty County Police officers themselves have given donations to buy food for Neighbors in Need. This year they donated 25 turkeys and all the fixings for 25 family Thanksgiving feasts, plus boxes of fresh sweet potatoes, and canned goods for their food pantry.

"People turning to criminal activity to get the things that they need. And we prefer to help them on this end, rather the other end," said Detective Tamiko Whitlock.

"We need to feed people everyday. It's not just about Thanksgiving. It's just helping people every day have food in their house," said Tina Appollonio, Neighbors In Need Exec. Director.

Dougherty County Police are urging other people and groups in the community to help others this Thanksgiving. You can donate to Neighbors In Need. They are at 2005 Martin Luther King Drive in Albany.
