SOWEGA Council warns seniors ahead of frigid temps

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The SOWEGA council on aging suggests seniors avoid getting out in the cold if they can, wear layers even indoors, and to stay away from alcohol.

The council doesn't give out electric heaters because of the fire dangers, but their Meals on Wheels volunteers check to make sure clients have what they need.

"You can call the Council on Aging. That's what we're here for," said Assistant Director Debbie Blanton. "If you have any needs or you're concerned about anyone that might be cold [and doesn't] have anything call us we will certainly send someone and take care of them, as much as we can."

If you would like to help those in need, he Council on Aging suggests you donate blankets or cold weather clothing to the Salvation Army, Goodwill, or Rescue Mission.
