AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Americus city officials spent the day hashing out the city budget as they consider closing one fire station.
Several firefighters were there listening.
City officials say next year's proposed budget has a 1.5 million dollar shortfall, and they don't want to raise property taxes.
They say closing a fire station could save about a half million dollars a year.
Firefighters are worried about losing their jobs and say closing a station would impact the area's ISO rating, which could force property owners to pay more for insurance.
