ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Health officials with the Southwest Georgia Public Health District are encouraging you to get your flu shot.
Health officials said they are seeing a spike in flu cases in our region. They said there have been several clusters of the flu in various school systems. They've found that most of the students who had the flu haven't had their flu shot.
"Most of those kids, almost all of them did not have the vaccine, the ones that were positive for flu. So we can say from that that we know the flu vaccine is working. So it's really important to get the flu shot," said Jacqueline Jenkins, District Epidemiologists.
A Southwest Georgia woman was the first person in the state to die from the flu this season. Health officials say you can get your flu shot at any County Health Department.
