CORDELE, GA (WALB) - A lumber yard fire could cost one Crisp County business almost a half million dollars. An edger at Griffin Lumber Company caught fire Tuesday night just after 7:00.
The fire halted production at the sawmill while crews replace the equipment.
The company's vice president Will Griffin says the fire could have been much worse.
"Everybody worked hard and kept it contained and got it put out. It sure could have been a lot worse. It was a bad fire, and we hate that it happened, but it could have been a lot worse, no doubt about it," he said.
Griffin hopes to resume production early next week.
