A Dougherty County non-profit organization that helps families, gets a big boost.
The Dougherty Family Literacy Connection was given a $10,000 check Friday from the Wayne Damron Family Charitable Fund.
Damron is from Alpharetta, but his daughter and her family live in Albany. He believes this program is crucial to fighting poverty and he hopes others will step up to help.
"I would challenge some of the more philanthropic people in your community to do what I have done," said Damron.
"It will help our families so that we can continue to serve them, continue to help them to find stability and success for their families," said Sandy Bamford the Executive Director for the Family Literacy Connection.
The program offers education for adults and children. They typically serve 30 to 35 families at any time.
Organizers plan to use the to expand their services.
