ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

With freezing temperatures on the way, it's important to make sure your pets are safe.

If your pet can't stay inside or in your garage, you might need to put blankets or hay outside for them.

Vets say there's one thing that might do more harm than good.

“Heat lamps on their pets thinking that's going to keep them warm, which it does, but the only thing is I am worried that one they could fall and create a fire or two the dogs could get too close and it will actually burn the pets," said Dr. Amber Love, veterinarian at Bush Animal Clinic.

The cold temperatures aren't going away anytime soon, so continue to monitor the WALB Weather forecast so you know when to give your pets a little extra care.
