Crash backs up traffic on U.S. 19 at Century Road

LEE CO., GA (WALB) - Emergency crews responded to a crash that backed up traffic on U.S. 19 at Century Road Thursday afternoon.

Drivers were asked to use caution in the immediate area and avoid the road if possible.

Lee County Chief Deputy Lewis Harris said a pickup truck ran into the back of a John Deere Tractor.

The driver of the truck and the tractor were injured, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

Witnesses at the scene said northbound traffic was being diverted at Century Road.

Officials did find some drugs and alcohol in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and is being taken to the Lee County Jail.

Crews were later able to reopen the road.

Georgia State Patrol troopers said crashes due to distracted drivers along with drug and alcohol related crashes are increasing, especially this time of year.

GSP said they are doing all they can to keep those drivers off the road.
