Fitzgerald claimed their first region title since 2011 this season, and dominated much of their competition.
The Canes are back to work this week, getting ready for their first round state playoff game with Bryan County.
While the wins have been great, it may have been the Hurricane's lone loss that propels them towards a title run.
Thomasville knocked off Fitzgerald at the beginning of October. Since then, the Canes have righted the ship in a big way. They've won four straight by a combined 133 points.
Head coach Jason Strickland says losing to the Dogs may have been what his team needed.
"It tasted bad. Our guys didn't enjoy that obviously. And I think it helped us refocus, recenter ourselves to make sure we were doing the things we needed to do to win football games," Strickland says. "Now at this point, we understand that we don't want to feel that feeling again. So we're going to continue to do things we can to make sure we're successful."
Fitzgerald and Bryan County kick off at 7:30 Friday at Jaycee Stadium.
