VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The owner of Walker Saw Sales in Valdosta is asking for the public's help in identifying the man caught on surveillance video at the store on October 30th stealing a lawn mower at one o' clock in the afternoon.
Business owner Ralph Nava closed early that day, but when he came back the next day to return the mower to its owner, he noticed it was gone."When we went looking for the unit, we couldn't find it. So, we went back on the video to see if it was stolen," explained Nava.
And it was. The suspect was able to pull the mower out from underneath a chain link fence on the side of the business."I thought everything was pretty much secured once we closed the gates; everything was okay," Nava said.
Since the theft, Nava has cemented a pair of wooden posts at the base of the fence. "This is what I had to do to prevent someone else from pulling the gate open and taking something out," Nava said as he pointed out the newly installed wooden posts. A property crimes detective with the Valdosta Police Department is investigating. Captain Bobbi McGraw said the surveillance video could play a big role in that.
"It is extremely beneficial to get good, clear surveillance because it helps the investigators, but at some point it may also be released to the public so they can help us identify the person," McGraw noted. And that's exactly what Ralph Nava is hoping for, too.
