LAKELAND, GA (WALB) - A Lakeland business owner is hoping this year's Veterans Day parade and ceremony will become an annual event.
The town held its first ever Veterans Day parade Tuesday, followed by a ceremony at the town's war memorial. Terrance Burton is the owner of "The British Chippie Pub" in Lakeland and a Vietnam veteran himself and said the parade and ceremony is something he has been wanting to get organized for a while.
"Certainly long overdue," Burton said. "A number of people said there's been nothing like it ever before here. We have a beautiful war memorial in Lakeland, Georgia and it's time it was honored and we respect all those that have given their lives in all the wars and conflicts."
The parade and ceremony also paid tribute to D-Day, as this year was the 70th anniversary of the allied invasion of the beaches in Normandy, France during World War II.
