AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Americus city leaders are considering closing a fire station to avoid a budget crisis.
Without a tax increase, they estimate they would need to cut spending by 1.5-million dollars in next fiscal year's budget. One proposal they're looking at is to shut down a fire station, but Mayor Barry Blount says they're looking at all options.
"I feel confident that at the end of the day, we are going to come out with a budget that may not be perfect in every sense but will be one that is the most prudent and most effective for our tax payers," said Mayor Barry Blount.
City leaders will discuss their options at a budget workshop next week.
