TIFTON, GA (WALB) - Multiple Southwest Georgia organizations gathered in Tifton today to help homeless veterans.
The second annual Veterans day "CARE for the Homeless" was held at the Tift Regional Community Events Center.
The Carl Vinson VA Medical Center partnered with community groups to host the event. The organizations offered food, clothing and hygiene products to the men and women without a home in Tifton and surrounding counties.
"The veterans fought and died and they sacrifice their families often to go be of service. Why would we not? It's an honor to help them if we can," said Judy Shiflet, Tift Regional Employee.
Organizers say it's a great way to give back to the veterans that gave so much for our country. The men and women were also given contacts for help with social security, schooling and jobs. The city's Tift Lift helped bus people to and from 3 stops. The groups hoped to have 125 to 150 people attend.
