New hotel opens its doors in Albany

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Holiday Inn Express and Suites on Pointe North Boulevard is officially open for business after a year and a half of construction.

" Well, they're experiencing a new hotel. When I say new as far as the décor, a lot here is like art deco modern," said Barrington Bryan, Front Desk Manager.

Bryan said they offer the latest in technology to make guest feel at home.

"As far as internet browsing, as far as locks for the guest, a safer key entry for the rooms."

More than 20 of the hotel's employees are from South Georgia. Bryan says room reservations are filling up fast since opening last Friday.

"We've been getting a constant pace of reservations," continued Bryan.

Their heated indoor pool, fitness center and 40 percent of their 80 rooms are handicap accessible.

"We're finding now that there are more travelers that are ADA. They're handicap and needing those handicap accessible features."

There's a doorbell and three in 1 TV, alarm and phone system in rooms for the hearing impaired. The rooms are more spacious and the Desk, tub and other appliances are lower to make things easier for handicapped guests.

"Our tubs actually have the fold down seat. They can actually climb in. We have rails, they can climb in and have a seat on the seat and take shower or either relax in the tub."

Security cameras are also placed throughout the hallways and outside in the parking lot. Bryan says the hotel plans to have an open house for the public in the next few weeks.
