Darton military students pick up trash at adopted medians

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Some Darton State College students are answering the Mayor's call to service by keeping Albany streets litter free.

Darton's Military Student Organization picked up trash along North Westover Boulevard. It's part of “Darton's Day of Giving Week of Service.” This semester they adopted the medians from Westgate Drive to Upton Court and dedicated the trees in the medians to honor those who served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"Because we want to serve our community, the way that our veterans have served our country,” said Stephanie Raulerson, Director of Military and Adult Education. “We think it's important to recognize their service and their sacrifice by doing the community service and makings sure that this is an area that remains clean."

The Darton Military Student Organization will pick up trash at their adopted medians every four to six weeks.
