Visitors from all over will be in southwest Georgia this weekend for the third annual Tour de Farm, a fundraiser that benefits Sumter Cycling and Georgia Organics.
The River Valley Regional Commission, Sumter Cycling and Cafe Campesino are hosting the event to help promote shared roads as well as healthy food production with Georgia Organics, a non-profit group based in Atlanta.
Cafe Campesino marketing director and coordinator of the event, Nema Etheridge says organizers plan at least a year in advance to pull the tour off, four states are represented along with several local food businesses to cater for riders.
Etheridge says to be able to bring people from Tallahassee or Birmingham to explore southwest Georgia on bike is exciting.
"What's really neat to me about this event is to be able to take all these assets with seeing seeing the world in a slowed down way and then eating really good food, " Etheridge said. "So, I think that's a really fun part."
The ride will begin at the Georgia Veterans State Park on Lake Blackshear.
Saturday morning, riders will be able to take the SAM shortline train to plains to explore local farming communities, then ride 28 miles to Americus.
Riders and visitors can then indulge in local music and demonstrations from craft artists.
