Former Mitchell Co. High School valedictorian injured in crash

MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) -

People in Mitchell County are coming together to support a former Mitchell County High School valedictorian.

Gerald Butler is in serious condition at a Macon hospital after he was critically injured in a crash Sunday caused by a suspected drunk driver.

Butler is now a student at Mercer University.

His former high school teachers remember him as a standout student and person

“It was hard to believe because something that terrible to happen to someone so good it does hurt. It is an awful thing to happen to anyone but especially to someone so young and someone who was really working to do good,” Constance Lee, Mitchell County High School.

Family and Friends are raising money to help with Butler's medical expenses.

His mother is with him at the Hospital in Macon.
