South Georgia church helps fight hunger

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A South Georgia church is helping two non- profits in the fight against hunger.

The Seventh Day Christian Assembly Of Doerun, hosted a live radio-thon in front of Harvey's on Dawson Road today. They were raising money to help the Albany Rescue Mission and the Second Harvest Food Bank. People were encouraged to give funds and donate food to either organization. The two organizations say any amount of donation is a big boost.

"The contribution that Pastor Ford and his congregation are making is going to be huge," said Eliza McCall, Second Harvest.

"Events like this help us to generate income and funds and help us to stock our pantry into 2015," Christopher Liberto, Albany Rescue Mission.

We're a very small group but we understand that if we are able to give to others then that gift has a ripple effect," said Pastor Larry Ford, The Seventh Day Christian Assembly.

The church also presented a $2,500 check to each organization.
