COOK CO., GA (WALB) - A man accused of shooting and killing his wife in front of their children in Miami, Florida remained in jail in South Georgia Thursday night.
59 year-old Donald Strange was arrested in Sparks early Wednesday morning at his ex-wife's house on Sumner Drive. Sparks Police said he went there after the shooting to visit his daughter, whom he hadn't seen in 15 years.
He then decided to turn himself in. "The homeowner told us that backdoor's open, gave us permission to come on in, he'll be on the couch. We made entry into the house, he was sitting up on the couch with [his daughter and his ex-wife]," explained Sparks PoliceSergeantt Alan Moore.
Moore said Strange tried to walk out of the house when he was told to put his hands up, but he was arrested before he actually made it out of the house. "He was fairly cooperative," Moore explained. "[He] didn't want to go down on the ground right off the bat, which is understandable. But, he was taken into custody with no great issues."
The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Strange's wife was pronounced dead at a Miami hospital a short time later. Investigators from Miami were at the Cook County Jail late Thursday afternoon to work on extraditing Strange to South Florida.
