ALBANY, GA (WALB) - New businesses are continuing to pop up in Northwest Albany along Westover Boulevard and Gillionville Road.
Soon, a neighborhood Walmart, a McDonald's and another new restaurant called Smoke and Fire will all be open for business.
"I think it's a good thing, especially since Darton is really close," said Destiny Brown.
College student Nicole Keith says she feels these businesses will be very popular among her peers.
"Its a lot of college students and it's kinda like a college area," she said.
Albany and Dougherty County planners say Albany is a great location for food and retail businesses due the city's location and low interest rates that make financing projects more affordable. They also say Albany has a strong shopping network.
And it's the Walmart that people said will provide the most convenience to those who live and work in the surrounding area.
"It's one in Lee County but this is even closer plus the restaurant," continued Keith.
"I mean it good, I'm glad they're going to have a Walmart close. Especially, since I'm on campus a lot. From like 9 to 5 so I'm glad it's really close."
Traffic count was also said to be a great factors for the new business. We also learned today a few miles up North Westover near Sam's Club a Cheddar's Restaurant is planned for Albany.
