ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County elections officials are pleased with Tuesday's voter turnout, but say it could always be better.
47.5 percent of registered voters in Dougherty County cast ballots in the general election.
That's below the statewide turnout of 49.9 percent.
Elections supervisor Ginger Nickerson said there was a steady stream of voters at many of the 28 precincts on election day.
"Of course we would have liked to have been in a higher percentile," said Nickerson. "We always look forward to more voters coming out, but we were pleased with the turnout. The majority of the precincts did see a majority of steady flow of traffic."
The Merry Acres and Beattie Road precincts each saw more than 700 voters.
There are more than 50,000 registered voters in Dougherty County.
