BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Some folks in Bainbridge have a better idea of how healthy they are after receiving free screenings and tests at a Community Health Fair at

Memorial Hospital and Manor.

Nearly five hundred people showed up bright and early to take advantage of free health screenings.

"This is the first year Memorial Hospital and Manor has hosted a free health fair-- and they were overwhelmed by the community's response. It's packed. It's been tremendous. I'm extremely excited. We had the theme this year of Thanksgiving. We want to thank the community for supporting us and give something back to the community," said Billy Walker.

Folks stood in lines for close to an hour to get their blood work done, vision checked, and bone density tested. But Walker said he heard no complaints because all of this was absolutely free of charge.

"Lab work in general can be very expensive. The lab work that we are offering today could be around $400," said Walker.

This health fair is truly a community effort. Student nurses from Bainbridge State College are here administering blood pressure tests just to make sure folks know about possible health concerns.

"We do have a problem with health issues, especially in Southwest Georgia, and this will help tremendously to identify them and help people before it gets too bad," said Ray Chambers.

Test results are electronically sent to each person's physician in order to update medical records. Memorial Hospital and Manor will host another health fair for city of Bainbridge employees next week.
