Dawson Mayor's race sees steady stream of voters

DAWSON, GA (WALB) -

A steady stream of voters showed up at the polls in Dawson Tuesday to cast ballots in a highly contested mayor's race.

Robert Albritten is running against Mayor Christopher Wright.

Albritten lost the race two years by just 29 votes after serving as mayor for 22 years.

Wright was nearly killed one year ago during an ambush shooting at his home.

Early voting numbers showed a lot of interest in the race.

More than 1,100 people in Terrell County voted early.

"It's been a tedious journey, but I've enjoyed every moment of it," said Mayor Wright. "I'm excited about today. I'm excited about the turnout, hopefully it's been a great one. And just waiting to hear those results."

Robert Albritten was not available for comment Tuesday.

There are more than 5,800 active voters in Terrell County.
