Voters eye Ashburn Mayor's race

TURNER CO., GA (WALB) - Turner County voters are deciding between two candidates to replace Ashburn Mayor Jim Hedges who decided not to run for another term.

Supporters of Sedric Carithers says there needs to be a more unified government that can come together for the common goal of improving and growing Ashburn.

His opponent Arhur Eld just turned 80, but isn't showing any signs of slowing down. He said he is running in order to see current projects in the works finished such as the city sidewalks project.

Carithers is running on his love of his hometown while Eld is running on experience of 12 years on city council.

"I'm a hometown man," said candidate Sedric Carithers. "I was born and raised here in Turner County, graduated from the public schools here. I've been here all my life. 40 years."

"City council is the important part of city government," said candidate Artie Eld. "The mayor doesn't have a vote, but he can direct the council on which way to go and that's what I want to do."
