ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Now that the time has changed Albany Firefighters recommend you change the batteries in your smoke alarms. They also say it's important to test them once a week to make sure they still work. Smoke alarms can be a lifesaving tool if a fire breaks out in your home.
"Every six months we change our time either forward or backward," said Battalion Chief Keith Ambrose. "So, by doing that we tell people when you change your time, go ahead and change the batteries in your smoke detectors. The little 9 volt batteries, reach up there and take them off the wall. Change your battery out and put it back on. That gives you a fresh battery every six months."
Firefighters also say if you hear your smoke alarm making a "chirping" sound, that's a sign it's time to change your batteries.
