Albany ARC employee raises awareness on ballot amendment

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Georgia voters are deciding two constitutional amendments and a referendum.

The Albany Resource Advocacy Center hopes you'll vote "yes" to Amendment B which would allow a surcharge on reckless driving fines to provide money to treat people with traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries.

Felicia Cartmell suffered a brain injury in a car accident 30-years ago and says the amendment would help survivors live more independently.

"It's not a tax hike, it's to help individuals that otherwise won't be able to lead a normal life, but if they can get the funding to fix a vehicle to drive to a job, they can have a job just like everyone else," said Felicia Cartmell, Albany ARC LPN.

The other amendment would prohibit an increase in the state income tax next year.

The other measure would give tax-exempt status to privately-owned dorms and parking decks used by the University System.
