Whooping cranes coming through Georgia with Operation Migration
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
Whooping cranes are coming through Georgia and folks at Operation migration want you to keep an eye out for them. It is illegal to kill the birds, which are almost extinct.
Operation migration flies them south once a year, and they're about to reach Georgia. The cranes are about 5 or 6 feet tall.
"We've been working to re-establish the population but we just want to make folks aware that they are starting to migrate through Georgia and just be aware of what you're looking at and shooting at," said Chairman of the Board Dale Richter.
Richter says several cranes were shot last year in Georgia.
