Update: Pile up on Liberty expressway cleared

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Multiple cars have been involved in a wreck on the west bound lanes of the Liberty Expressway in Albany.

Albany EMS supervisor Sam Allen says they responded to a double wreck around 8 a.m. Monday near the Nottingham exit when moments later another wreck occurred near North Slappey.

Approximately ten cars were involved in the pileup in the second collision, Allen said they transported about four or five people to the hospital for minor injuries.

The cause of the initial accident is unknown but Allen believes heavy traffic during morning drive time hours may have been responsible for the second accident.

Traffic was backed up for over an hour in the westbound lanes however that area has now been cleared.
