ALBANY, GA (WALB) - National safety officials say roads are getting more dangerous for bicyclists.
New statistics from Governors Highway Safety Association show that bicycle deaths jumped 16 percent from 2010 to 2012.
During that same time, the number of drivers killed on U.S. roads only increased by about one percent.
Terrell Hoffman, the owner of cycle world on Dawson Road, said drivers need to be more careful and share the road.
"A lot of motorists feel that cyclists shouldn't be on the road. That they should be out somewhere where they're not. The biggest thing is, we are allowed to be on the road just as much as anybody else," said Terrell Hoffman
The number of cyclist deaths in Georgia over those three years was 18, 14, and 17.
Hoffman also said his sales are up over the past three years, putting more cyclists on the roads.
