ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A Westover High School student is facing a tribunal hearing after bringing a gun to school.
It happened Wednesday morning around 8 a.m. The gun was loaded, but it had a gun lock on it and the student did not have the key.
The 15-year old is being held at the regional youth detention center tonight charged with possession of a firearm in a school safety zone.
We're told the student has not had discipline problems and did not threaten anyone, but he did have the gun in his backpack and then in his waistband.
Other students saw it and notified the Principal William Chunn.
He and the a school police officer confronted the student in the hallway at the beginning of school this morning and confiscated the gun.
The student, who was not immediately named, was taken to the school police department downtown for questioning. The student will not be allowed back in school pending the tribunal hearing.
