Valdosta family wakes to gunfire inside home

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police are trying to figure out who broke into a family's home early Wednesday morning and fired a gunshot into a wall.

According to the police report Wednesday morning, an unknown person kicked in the front door of 331 Sawgrass Dr. and then fired one shot into the home. A  bullet hole could be seen towards the bottom of the hallway wall leading from the front door of the home into the living room area Wednesday morning.

33 year-old Maceo Williams and his girlfriend, 26 year-old Brittany Harrell, along with Williams' three and six year-old daughters, were asleep inside the home when they heard someone kick in the front door around 12:30 a.m. and then heard a single gunshot.

"According to him," said Valdosta Police Department Lieutenant Aaron Kirk, "by the time he came out to the living room there was no one there. The front door was open and they did find some evidence that a gun had been discharged inside the home."

No one in the home was injured. Police did find a shell casing inside the home along with a baseball cap believed to belong to the shooter.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Valdosta Police.
