New VA clinic based in Tifton will serve thousands

TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

Another VA clinic is coming to south Georgia.

Congressman Austin Scott and officials from the Veteran's Administration announced a new clinic Thursday will open in Tifton very soon.

Veterans say it is needed to serve more than 8,000 vets in Tift and surrounding counties. Veteran Jack Stone, who helped spearhead the project says this was several years in the making.

“I talked it over with them and the American Legion, the VFW and the AmVets and they are all enthused about it. We'll have it so we can get all our needs serviced right here,” said Jack Stone.

Stone says he made plenty of phone calls and wrote letters to help bring the clinic to Tifton.

It will serve Tift, Ben Hill, Irwin and Turner counties and should open in 18 months.
